Cafe Sous Terre is such a cute, cozy, and sexy little coffee shop with an atmosphere that’s hard to beat. The vibe feels intimate and tucked away—perfect for catching up with a friend, having a private conversation, or even a little “secret rendezvous” 😉. I ordered the Croque Monsieur and an espresso, and both were absolutely delicious. The Croque Monsieur was rich, flavorful, and satisfying, while the espresso was smooth and perfectly prepared. If you’re looking for a place to work, it’s great for solo productivity, reading, writing, or answering emails. However, it can get a bit lively and loud, so I wouldn’t recommend it for virtual meetings or calls. For focused work without meetings, though, it’s a perfect spot. Overall, Cafe Sous Terre offers great food, excellent coffee, and one of the most charming atmospheres in Detroit. I’ll definitely be back!

I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience at this restaurant and will not be returning. I chose to bring my mother here for Mother’s Day expecting a pleasant and welcoming environment, but instead we were made deeply uncomfortable throughout our visit. There was a man seated alone at a four-top table with his shoes completely off, his bare feet up near the furniture while other guests were dining. To make matters worse, he was blasting loud dubstep music directly from his phone while slowly nursing a single beer. The atmosphere was disruptive, inappropriate, and completely unacceptable for a restaurant — especially on Mother’s Day during what should have been a celebratory dining experience. What was even more concerning was the staff’s response. When we politely asked if they could address the situation and have the music turned down, the employees appeared afraid to intervene and instead asked us what we wanted them to do. As paying customers, it should not have been our responsibility to manage another guest’s disruptive and unsanitary behavior. I specifically pointed out that having someone’s bare feet on or near restaurant furniture while patrons are eating is unsanita

Café Sous Terre has a lot of charm and a cozy, tucked-away vibe that makes it feel like a hidden gem in Detroit. The coffee itself is solid, and the atmosphere has a nice, laid-back energy that’s great for catching up with a friend or getting some work done. That said, the space is noticeably cramped, especially during busier hours. Seating is limited and tables are packed closely together, which can make it feel a bit uncomfortable and noisy. It’s not the easiest place to relax if you’re hoping for a little breathing room. Another downside was the cleanliness of the tables. Several were left uncleared for a while, which made it harder to find a spot and took away from the overall experience. With a bit more attention to keeping tables clean and turning them over quickly, the café could feel much more welcoming. Overall, it’s a decent spot with good coffee and a unique atmosphere, but the tight space and inconsistent table maintenance hold it back from being a truly great experience.

We stopped for a cafe latte and a chai latte variation. The vibe in the basement is cool with great music. Will definitely be back for a wine an some cocktails soon.

Super cool chic atmosphere, complete with a niche indie soundtrack. Very good coffee. Can't speak to anything else food wise. I'd go back anytime
